“More To Our Existence”

“More To Our Existence”

There’s more to our existence
Than going through the motions
We get preoccupied with self
Carried adrift by our emotions

Life becomes very unstable
Thoughts turned inside out
Your Word quells the chaos
Banishes all fear and doubt

You’re the most glorified
When we’re satisfied in You
Trusting You wholly in heart
Firmly rooted in Your Truth

Sin for us holds no appeal
If Your statutes we obey
Nor will feelings rule us
If we follow You and pray

Psalms 19:11 (NASB)
The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psalms 16:11 (NASB)
You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

“Jesus Holds Your Future”

“Jesus Holds Your Future”

The past is but a memory
Mere shadow, silhouette
Don’t let it rule over you
Close the door on regret

It does no good for you
To dwell upon sorrows
Jesus holds your future
And all your tomorrows

Dear ones, consider this
You’re His for eternity
You’re hidden in Him
And in Him you’re free

Colossians 3:3 (NASB)
For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

“True Identity”

“True Identity”

When your defenses are down
Unwelcome regrets come calling
You feel you are on shaky ground
A stone’s throw away from falling

These moments present a choice
To be tormented by hurtful lies
Or to remember His loving voice
Your Redeemer hears your cries

Answers are found in Scripture
All thoughts take captive to Him
In it, He gives you a clear picture
He has already paid for your sin

Let this be your joy; you are His
As His Word floods your mind
This is a fact you cannot miss
True identity in Him you find

II Corinthians 5:17 (NASB)
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

“Lessons” (Thoughts)

Life is a series of teachable moments; of growth opportunities. But when I was growing up, I did not see life in the same way I see it now. The disappointments, the hurts, and all the things that made life “difficult” have in some way helped shape me into the individual I am today.

However, it’s rather interesting how “selective” memory can be; for example, my brain houses more negative memories of my younger years than positive ones. The past is the hardest hurdle to get over; mistakes made, wrong roads taken, the “woulda-coulda-shouldas”. These only serve as stumbling blocks to living in the present.

To learn to forgive is the key in letting go of the shadows of the past in order to keep on moving forward. The person I used to be doesn’t define who I am now. I know that I’m of value in God’s eyes. And His is the only opinion that matters the most to me.

“Upon My Heart”

“Upon My Heart”

If I could go backward in time
This I wouldn’t choose to do
Despite tears over wasted years
Your grace led me back to You

My life would be worth nothing
If I had only myself and my pride
Knowing You is life’s greatest joy
Daily You renew me from the inside

Humbly I bow before You in prayer
Asking that You use me as You will
You replace my fears with Your peace
My soul’s troubled waters become still

More Holy Scripture I need each day
Engrave Your Word upon my heart
To persevere walking this narrow path
From the purity of Truth to never depart

John 3:30 (NASB)
He must increase, but I must decrease.

Psalm 139:23-24 (NASB)
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.

Luke 24:32 (NASB)
They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

“The Little Things”

“The Little Things”

It’s the little things that mean the most to us
Good conversation; investing time in a friend
It’s sharing the love of Christ with each other
And building relationships that will never end

Life’s fragile; savor and cherish each moment
God’s given us one another; we’re His family
What a privilege is ours to be united in Christ
What an unspeakable joy is ours for eternity

Galatians 6:2 (NASB) Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

I John 4:7 (NASB)
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

“Scarlet Thread”

“Scarlet Thread”

You may find yourself in a familiar place
Mistakes continually thrown in your face
It’s like returning to a dark, dusty room
Choking on tears and hiding in the gloom

You’re not to remain chained to the past
Jesus cares for you, and His love is so vast
You’re no value to a culture of compromise
But you’re worth so much more in His eyes

He’s numbered each hair on your head
You’re bound to Him by a scarlet thread
If you have Him, then you’ve all you need
A lost sinner now found, a prisoner freed

Luke 12:7 (NASB)
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

Things of this world hold little appeal
They don’t ultimately satisfy the soul
All is empty, vain, and meaningless
Unless we believe God is in control

We can squander our time on earth
Move from one diversion to the next
Our happiness doesn’t last for long
We embark on another vacant quest

Life isn’t meant to be lived for self
To pursue every impulse felt within
Until God becomes our deepest desire
Do we realize what fools we’ve been

Cradle to grave, there are seasons
Looking back, may we clearly see
Wisdom is a life aimed at His glory
Purpose and joy in Him, living free

Psalms 90:12 (NASB)
So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.

Times and seasons; the passages of life
Dreams, expectations; a forward glance
Troubles, trials; God’s Providential Hand
Faith forged in the fires of circumstance

Grace, goodness; the privilege of prayer
His Tender Mercies, His Amazing Love
Lavished upon His Children, one and all
Blessings in Jesus sent down from above

Psalms 103:2-5 (NASB)
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits;

3 Who pardons all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases;

4 Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;

5 Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

“Take Time To Make Time”

“Take Time”

Let’s take time to make time
Amidst our hectic, busy day
To show each other we care
By our actions; what we say
Things we consider so small
A listening ear; a kind word
May mean the world to one
Whose voice is barely heard
To have a friend, be a friend
To that hurting soul in need
We may be surprised to find
Through kindness we show
A victim of loneliness freed

Philippians 2:4 (NASB)
do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Michael English – “Take The Time”

“A Marriage”

“A Marriage”

This isn’t about a passing fancy or romantic whim
This isn’t about clever-sounding words or rhyme
It’s about a steady fire kindled within the heart
It’s a flame of love grown stronger with time

It’s about learning the fine art of compromise
It’s about the gentle balance of give-and-take
It’s about truth, honesty, friendship, and trust
It’s about the willingness to forgive a mistake

It’s an unpredictable adventure of discovery
It’s about two personalities blending as one
It’s a marriage, with Christ as its foundation
It’s a husband and wife united in God’s Son

(as an aside, I thought I’d mention that the following song was sung at our wedding back in August of 1987)
